About

Mikal Evans is a painter shaped by a life lived across disciplines, cities, and creative forms. Now working in Athens, she paints in vivid layers — abstract landscapes, luminous seascapes, and intimate explorations of women’s interior worlds. Her work is rooted in color, intuition, and emotional memory.
Evans began her creative path in New York City, first as an actor and musician, where she learned to follow emotion, rhythm, and breath — qualities that still guide her brushwork. Photography came next, leading her from NYC to Dakar, Senegal, and teaching her to see light, detail, and story with new clarity. Later, as the co-creator of Magoma, an eco-friendly women’s clothing brand, she worked closely with themes of identity, joy, and the freedom to take up space — the same themes that pulse through her recent series, To the Brim.
Her work has been shown internationally, including in the Dakar Biennale OFF (2022) and the DWG Art Show (2023), and more than 125 collectors have brought her paintings into their homes. Across every chapter of her creative life, Evans has pursued the same truth: that color can hold emotion, and that joy — especially women’s joy — deserves room to spill over.
Color is my language. I paint in layers — stories, memories, emotions — building surfaces that invite joy, play, and presence. My newest series, To the Brim, explores the courage it takes for women to reclaim childlike wonder.
