This collection of paintings emerged in the wake of the loss, celebration, and remembrance of my father. I had originally been preparing a completely different body of work for this exhibition, but as I moved through grief, I realized I needed to begin again and paint from a place that felt more honest to my experience. I took every canvas down and started over.

Throughout these works, the process itself became inseparable from the emotional landscape I was navigating.  Many of the paintings began with a figure, which I would then partially erase by wiping the surface with cloth. What remained were traces — translucent forms, fading gestures, and layered colors dissolving into one another. The figures became less physical and more spectral, suspended somewhere between presence and absence.

These paintings are not intended as portraits of loss, but as reflections on memory, impermanence, and the ways people continue to exist within us after they are gone. Through acts of painting and removal, I found myself searching for the space where grief and love coexist: where something can disappear while still leaving its imprint behind.
